Painting of Horror

Within the darkness of a room,
Where shadows dance and flicker gloom,
There hangs a painting on the wall,
Of a dog and shed, both old and small.

Its colors faded, cracked and chipped,
As if the artist’s brush had slipped,
And left behind a haunting sight,
That fills the heart with dread and fright.

The dog’s eyes gleam with an eerie light,
As if it’s watching in the night,
And from the shed there comes a sound,
Like footsteps slowly creeping ’round.

No birds will sing when it’s displayed,
And every viewer feels afraid,
As if the painting holds a curse,
That makes the bravest soul disperse.

Perhaps it’s just a work of art,
But deep within it stirs the heart,
A dark and malevolent force,
That leaves no option but remorse.

So if you ever chance to see,
This painting’s eerie mystery,
Remember well the warning given,
For in its grasp, no one has thriven.
