The Reckoning

The scientist and his assistant worked late into the night, hunched over their microscopes. They had been working on this project for years, and they were finally close to a breakthrough.

They had created a hybrid creature, part insect and part plant. It was a small, delicate thing, with a segmented body and spindly legs. But it was also incredibly strong and resilient. Thus is was decided to release the creature into the world, to see what would happen. They released it in a remote location, and they watched from a distance. The creature thrived. It reproduced quickly, and its offspring spread throughout the land. Soon, the creature was everywhere.

Humans were helpless against it. Its tentacles were too fast, and its organs too strong. The creature took over the world as it was the new dominant species. Humans were forced to live in fear, always looking over their shoulders, always wondering if the creature was coming for them.

The creature was a nightmare come to life. It was a monster that had no place in the world. But it was here now, and it was here to stay. The same could no longer be said about mankind.
